Earthquake: Criticism of Santa Monica Tenants
It is truly sickening to read newspaper reports that some Santa Monica tenants have been so quick to demand rent decreases from “landlords who don’t repair quake-damaged apartments” (after only two days!).
At the very least, this behavior is opportunistic and smacks of price gouging in reverse. It is especially sad considering how many families have been left homeless and shattered by the quake.
This disaster has brought out the best qualities of so many Los Angeles residents, and the worst of some of Santa Monica’s rent-controlled tenants.
