Dudley Hart, the leader through three rounds of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, is one of the young men Johnny Miller is trying to impress.

And the 47-year-old Miller, making one of his rare appearances on the PGA Tour, will go head to head with Hart, 25, today in the final round of the $1.25-million tournament.

Miller, now a television commentator, has won only once--the 1987 edition of this tournament--in more than a decade. He shot a five-under-par 67 Saturday to pull within one stroke of Hart’s 10-under-par total of 206.

Hart and Miller will play in the final foursome at Pebble Beach.

Tom Watson, with a round of 72, trails Miller by one stroke at 208. Ted Tryba is another shot back at 209 after a round of 69.

Second-round leader Davis Love shot a 78 and dropped out of contention at 213.

George Archer and Kermit Zarley were part of a four-way tie for first place after the second round of the Royal Caribbean Classic at Key Biscayne, Fla.

Bob Charles and J.C. Snead also shared the lead at 137, five under par. Seven other golfers were within three shots of the lead in the senior tournament.

First-round leader Lee Trevino, slowed by a balky putter, watched five players overtake him and slipped two strokes back with a two-over 73.

Snead and Zarley each shot 66.

Only 11 of 78 players broke 70 as many struggled to read greens that were redesigned after last year’s tournament.

Ian Woosnam shot a four-under-par 68 and tied Fred Couples for the third-round lead in the $900,000 Johnnie Walker Classic at Phuket, Thailand.

Greg Norman of Australia shot a course-record eight-under 64 and tied Germany’s Bernhard Langer and Taiwan’s Hsieh Chin-sheng for third place.

Norman, one stroke behind the leaders, came into the tournament with a lung infection and didn’t practice before the event. If he finishes first or second, he will replace Nick Faldo of England as the world’s top-ranked player. Faldo failed to make the cut.

Couples, who has held the lead since the opening round, shot a 70 for a three-round total of 208, matched by Woosnam.

Laura Davies, who almost wasn’t allowed in the tournament, was tied for the lead with Lisa Walters going into today’s final round of the LPGA Palm Beach Classic at Lake Worth, Fla.

Davies has seven birdies and an eagle on the eight par fives during the first two rounds. Her two-round total was 134 after a 69 Saturday. Walters shot a 68 and Dawn-Coe Jones was two strokes back after a 69.

Davies was originally marked down for the new Oldsmobile-sponsored event at Michigan in June and omitted from this field in a mix-up.

LPGA Commissioner Charles Mechem allowed Davies to play.

Among the more notable not to make today’s final round: Hall of Famer JoAnne Carner (145), Brandie Burton (147) and Patty Sheehan (146).
