Misguided to Firmer Ground

Share

Regarding the article in Valley Business on Feb. 1 that “Some buyers from the San Fernando Valley seek firmer ground in Antelope Valley.” . . . The article seems to say the people wanting to move there think that Palmdale is seismically safer than the San Fernando Valley. This seems ignorant because most of the new houses in Palmdale are within a mile or two of the San Andreas Fault. Even though the houses there may be built better, people are going to be shaken a lot more when that fault moves. I think it’s because of what we have built over and around us that may fall on, or explode next to us, that makes many people fearful of earthquakes (myself included) and want to move away from them. But I would not move next to the largest fault in California.
