OJAI : Panel Backs Merging Planning Boundaries
A committee exploring the potential annexation of the Ojai Valley into a valleywide city of Ojai is recommending the city and valley merge their respective planning boundaries.
Under a proposal being fine-tuned by the Local Government Options Committee, the city of Ojai and the Ventura River Valley Municipal Advisory Council would share so-called areas of interest--boundaries used by planners to study land-use applications.
The committee, made up of 30 city and Ojai Valley residents, plans to submit its formal recommendations to the Ojai City Council next month.
But committee co-chairman Mansfield Sprague this week sent council members an update on the proposal for tonight’s City Council meeting.
No action is scheduled on the proposal tonight, but Sprague said the committee would be asking the council to approve the recommendations next month.
The county Board of Supervisors and the Local Agency Formation Commission also would have to approve the recommendation to combine the two planning areas.
A study completed last year endorsed the idea of a valleywide city but concluded that it was not yet economically feasible.
