SIMI VALLEY : Man Arrested in Assault on Janitor

Share

A Glendale man caught after-hours distributing hate literature at Simi Valley High School has been arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor assault for punching a janitor who told him to leave campus.

Allan Carlson, 30, was arrested Monday by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies after Ventura County officials issued a warrant for his arrest, Simi Valley Police Detective Kathy Vigil said.

Carlson was still being held in Los Angeles County Jail Tuesday afternoon.

Carlson had stuffed racist leaflets into about 600 lockers before a custodian asked him to leave on Dec. 16, police said. When Carlson refused, the custodian ran to the gym for help and Carlson followed him there. Carlson allegedly punched the custodian in view of a few coaches and students, police said.

The handouts attacked whites who marry minorities and advocated driving minorities from the United States. A phone number with an 818 area code was given to call for more information.

Police cannot prosecute Carlson for distribution of hate literature, which is protected by the U.S. Constitution’s right to free speech.

Similar flyers have been found in food packaging by customers of a few Ventura County drug stores. And the same literature was found stuffed in lockers at Westlake High School on Jan. 7.
