OXNARD : 2 Rescued on Island After Losing Boat
Two Oxnard men were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after their fishing boat ran aground on San Clemente Island, authorities said Friday.
Ian Janis and Robert Lee Rhoads III were found onshore about 11:30 p.m. Thursday after they had abandoned their 27-foot vessel.
The vessel’s anchor chain broke and the boat drifted onto rocks while the two men were diving for sea urchin. The victims radioed the Coast Guard for help about 10:30 p.m., just before they abandoned the boat.
They were taken uninjured off the island by a Coast Guard helicopter.
