SIG-ALERT: Much-discussed reunions of Led Zeppelin and the Eagles are still up in the air, but Traffic is on the move.

The English group--whose late-’60s and early-’70s recordings have been classic-rock radio regulars in recent years--will release a new album, “Far From Home,” on May 3 and will subsequently launch its first tour in 20 years.

In truth, only two members--singer Steve Winwood and drummer Jim Capaldi--are anchoring the projects. Co-founder Chris Wood died in 1983, while Dave Mason is now in the latest edition of Fleetwood Mac. Winwood’s manager Ron Weisner says it should not be termed a reunion, but a spontaneous collaboration of two longtime partners.

“When there was talk a year ago about Steve doing another solo album, there was this natural evolution between Steve and Jim that just started leaning much more to the Traffic aura than anything else,” Weisner says.

Says Winwood: “We wanted to make an album that would be what Traffic would do had they not stopped making music for all this time. We wanted to make sure that the music had the loose feel, the raw ingredient which Traffic had.”
