Collins Dominates Surfing in Santa Cruz

Orange County surfers, led by Richie Collins of Newport Beach, dominated competition in the Billabong, the first Bud Surf Tour stop of the season, Saturday at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz.

Collins reached today’s quarterfinals in the main event and longboarding, posting one of the day’s top heat scores in the main event.

Also advancing in the main event were Vince De La Pena, Laguna Niguel; Jeff Deffenbaugh, Huntington Beach, and Jason Senn, San Clemente.

Advancing in longboarding were Joey Hawkins and Ed Enriquez of Huntington Beach; Israel Paskowitz, Josh Baxter, Jim Hogan, Jeff Krammer and Colin McPhillips, San Clemente, and Josh Mohr of Newport Beach, who had the day’s best longboarding heat.
