Sanders Vows to Quit Football, Concentrate on Baseball Career

Deion Sanders has had enough of two-sport employment.

Sanders has told Sports Magazine that he is finished with pro football and that he will concentrate on playing baseball with the Atlanta Braves. His spare time, Sanders said, will be spent establishing himself as a rap or movie star.

“I’m tired,” Sanders is quoted as saying. “I’ve been driving myself too much by playing baseball and football and trying to do other things I love, like music. I’m 26, going on 36, 37, 38.”

Sanders is the Braves’ center fielder and leadoff hitter, but played cornerback well enough with the Atlanta Falcons to make the Pro Bowl.

The Falcon season, which ended in a three-game losing streak after a 6-2 run that included victories over Dallas and San Francisco, is part of his reason for giving up football.

“My last game (a season-ending 27-10 loss to Phoenix) was the worst game I’ve ever played in football,” said Sanders, who is a free agent but said he will accept no offer from the Falcons.

“Worst game of my life. I had no desire. No drive. No enthusiasm. I didn’t want to be out there. I should’ve walked off the field, out of the stadium and said, ‘Later. See ya when I get the feeling back.’ ”
