STAR TREKS: One act that MTV is known to covet for an “Unplugged” appearance is Led Zeppelin.

And the rumors of a reunion of the three surviving members continue to escalate.

Pop Eye has learned that singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page recently met in Boston to discuss a possible tour this year. And whether it’s done through MTV or not, there’s also talk of an acoustic album--the title “Un-led-ed” has been floated already. Representatives of the involved parties would not comment on the plans.

If Zeppelin does hit the road, it would probably top what is shaping up to be one of the biggest concert years in recent memory, with a superstar roster of veteran acts leading the way.

Pink Floyd’s stadium tour is doing huge business across the country (its April 16 Rose Bowl date was a quick sell-out), final details for a Rolling Stones tour are being nailed down, and there are also rumors of an Elton John/Billy Joel pairing for a few stadium shows. And the reformed Steely Dan is expected to again tour amphitheaters, concentrating on cities it missed on last summer’s tour.

Add to that the expected announcement of an Eagles reunion tour, the already set Traffic reunion, a Jimmy Buffett tour and, of course, the good ol’ Grateful Dead, and it looks like a good year for the older demographics.

And that’s great news for concert promoters.

“It may well be, in terms of gross ticket volume, the biggest year in the history of the concert business,” says Gary Bongiovanni, editor of the concert industry trade magazine Pollstar. “It almost certainly will be if the Led Zeppelin and Eagles tours come through.”
