More Episodes of ‘Homicide’

Share

For the first time in ages, there was something truly engrossing and entertaining on Thursday evenings for viewers with an IQ quotient above the wattage of a small appliance bulb--”Homicide: Life on the Street” (NBC). Instead of following the cliches of typical cop shows, this superb program with its incredible cast took on the exploration of the whys found in the human mind. If the powers at NBC don’t give this series longer than four episodes, they have bricks where their brains should be.

Kid Shows, Adult Commercials

How wonderful to find family entertainment promoted. My kids and I looked forward to an hour together watching “Treasure Island: The Story Begins (Jan. 23, NBC). It should have been noted in TV Times that anyone watching with children should turn off the commercials. Coca-Cola gives us its first commercial with continuing lyrics, “I just want to make love to you.” Next came glaring super-graphics, designed for any first-grade reader, “DATE RAPE,” followed by provocative sound bites plugging Sally Jessy Raphael. Now how do you explain this stuff to a 3- or 6-year-old?

Gunned Down

Your cover choice for the Jan. 30-Feb. 5 TV Times left much to be desired. The last thing I would like to see on my television guide is Bill Cosby and co-star brandishing 9mm-semiautomatic weapons. I see enough guns and violence on the television already. I don’t need it on my coffee table.
