Two unarmed security guards in Orange County were shot to death within two hours, and investigators are trying to determine if the slayings were linked.

Dagoberto R. Carrero, 23, of Orange died after an 11:05 p.m. Sunday shooting at the Century Theater Complex at City Shopping Center, said Orange Police Lt. Timm Brown.

Brown said Carrero had confronted six teen-agers earlier in the day about sneaking into the theater for a 5:15 p.m. showing of “Addams Family Values,” and one of them had threatened him. Police were searching for the teen-agers for questioning.

Carrero was shot through a lobby window as he prepared to head home to his wife and 9-month-old daughter, police said.

In Garden Grove, Rupert Morales, 19, of Santa Ana, was shot several times in the parking lot of Nick’s Hide Away bar at 12:50 a.m. Monday, said Garden Grove Police Sgt. Joe Johnson.

Morales also was an unarmed security officer, Johnson said.

Police were looking into a possible connection between the two killings, but had no facts to support a link, Johnson said.
