From Associated Press

Ron Tugnutt won’t likely forget his first game with the Montreal Canadiens.

In the Canadiens’ 8-7 loss to the Flyers at Philadelphia on Monday, Tugnutt, acquired from the Mighty Ducks on Sunday, replaced goalie Patrick Roy at 10:05 of the second period and ended up with the loss.

The Flyers led at the time, 6-4, on five power-play goals and one even-strength goal.

The Canadiens closed within 7-6 at 6:01 of the third on Patrice Brisebois’ unassisted goal before Eric Lindros scored his second goal 1:56 later.

Montreal’s John LeClair closed the scoring when he tipped in a shot with 2:46 remaining.

Rod Brind’Amour, Brent Fedyk and Lindros each scored twice for the Flyers.

Dallas 6, San Jose 3--Mike Modano scored three goals, including a tiebreaking goal in the third period that sparked the Stars at San Jose.

It was Modano’s second career hat trick and the first this season for Dallas as the Stars extended their winning streak to seven games, which matches a franchise record.

The last time the Stars faced the Sharks--Feb. 6 at Dallas--they lost, 7-1. That was the Sharks’ largest margin of victory for the young franchise.

New York Rangers 4, Pittsburgh 3--Tony Amonte scored the winner eight seconds into overtime at New York. Amonte had not scored a goal in 10 games, and this one was only his 14th, well behind the pace of 35 and 33 he scored the last two seasons.

New York Islanders 4, Washington 0--Ron Hextall stopped 26 shots for his second consecutive shutout as the Islanders ended the Capitals’ seven-game unbeaten streak at Uniondale, N.Y.

Marty McInnis had a goal and two assists, which helped Hextall raise his personal shutout string to 147 minutes.

Washington’s Mike Ridley, suffering from flu, ended a string of 274 games played.

Buffalo 2, Quebec 1--Yuri Khmylev scored the winning goal in the second period at Buffalo as the Sabres extended their unbeaten streak to four games.
