NORTHRIDGE : Pet Rescuer Keeping Busy After Quake

Share

The founder of an animal rescue organization has had a little extra business since the ground stopped shaking last month.

Raquel Roger, who with a handful of volunteers runs the rescue group Precious Life Inc. out of her Canoga Park home, visits a yellow-tagged apartment complex in Northridge each day to check two cat traps she’s set.

Roger, who also runs a low-cost spay/neuter clinic in Granada Hills, starting setting and checking the traps after apartment manager Randy Sobel called to ask for help.

Tenants either couldn’t find their cats or couldn’t coax them into the open to catch them, Sobel said.

Roger has trapped six cats at the Northridge Fontana Apartments and has matched three with their owners. She’s looking for foster homes for the others until their owners can be found.

Roger said she had originally only planned to keep trapped cats for three days and then turn them over to local shelters. But when the three days were up, she quickly changed her mind.

“I can’t do that. I won’t take these cats to a shelter,” she said.

Roger said she’s willing to set more traps to help owners catch their animals. Cat owners who want Roger’s help can call her at (818) 348-6093.
