It wasn’t all that warm a homecoming for Damon Stoudamire, so he decided to answer rudeness with rudeness.

Stoudamire, who played high school ball up the road in Portland, was booed every time he touched the ball in the first half at Eugene, Ore., then made the go-ahead basket with 45 seconds to play in ninth-ranked Arizona’s 75-71 victory Saturday over Oregon.

Khalid Reeves hit two free throws with nine seconds to play to clinch the victory.

Stoudamire broke a 71-71 tie with 53 seconds to play, driving the length of the court and hitting a jump shot.

“We were going to run a play, but it was my option to take it all the way,” he said.

He had led all scorers with 13 first-half points.

“Every time the crowd got loud, the coach (Lute Olson) would call the play for me,” Stoudamire said. “He did it a couple of times, and I was able to hit the shots when we needed them.”

Stoudamire finished with 21 points. Reeves had 25, including seven of Arizona’s last 11.

It was the sixth consecutive victory for the Wildcats (23-4, 12-3). Oregon fell to 9-14, 5-9.

Arizona St. 80, Oregon St. 60--Stevin Smith had 22 points and Mario Bennett scored 19 to lead the Sun Devils at Corvallis, Ore.

Arizona State (13-11, 8-7) never trailed, but there were six ties early before Bennett hit a free throw and two rebound baskets to start a 10-0 run to a 27-17 lead.

The last-place Beavers dropped to 6-17, 2-12.

Kareem Anderson led Oregon State with 20 points, 17 in the second half.

Washington St. 75, Washington 51--Fred Ferguson scored 17 points and freshman Nathan Erdmann added a career-high 16 in his first start to lead the Cougars at Pullman, Wash.

Eddie Hill and Mark Hendrickson added 10 apiece as Washington State (17-9, 7-7) gave Coach Kelvin Sampson his 100th victory.

Maurice Woods had 18 points to lead Washington (5-18, 3-11).
