BRIEFLY : Education: Funeral Held for Award-Winning Teacher
Funeral services were held Thursday for Ron Brown, a 21-year teacher at Horace Mann Elementary School in Beverly Hills who was hailed as one of the district’s most talented and popular teachers.
Brown, a social studies instructor, was 51. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Brown was named the Beverly Hills Education Foundation teacher of the year in 1992. He taught at Weigand Elementary in Los Angeles before going to Horace Mann.
“He was an outstanding teacher, and the students and staff loved him,” Principal Arthur Field said. “He was kind and caring, and did all he could to help when a student had a problem.”
Brown graduated from Los Angeles High School and USC. He is survived by a son, Chris, a brother, David, and sister Phyllis.
