Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : School District Superintendent to Retire
Supt. Troy Bramlett has announced that he will retire from the Saugus Union School District on Oct. 1, citing health reasons.
“I’m old enough and worn out enough,” joked Bramlett, 59. “I’m out of gas and leaking oil.”
Bramlett said that he has had diabetes for four years, and that his doctor has recommended more exercise and less tension to help battle the symptoms.
“I can treat myself better if I’m retired,” said Bramlett, who plans to play golf and fish once he retires. “I’m going to do everything I can to keep these (symptoms) under control.”
Bramlett replaced Christopher Wilson in the district’s $90,000-per-year post about 1 1/2 years ago. His two-year contract expires at the end of September.
Bramlett has a 37-year career in education, previously working as the Monterey County superintendent of schools for eight years and superintendent of the Pacific Grove Unified School District for 12 1/2 years.
The Saugus district has a $23-million budget and includes 10 elementary schools with about 6,450 students.
