PASADENA : School Official to Leave for New Post

A school district administrator demoted last year for concealing the removal of a special-education department computer will become superintendent of an Imperial County school district this month.

Michael Klentschy, 49, administrator of elementary instruction, told the Pasadena school board last week that his goal had always been to become a superintendent for a school district. He will assume the top educator position in the El Centro School District, next to the Mexian border, on March 14, almost a year after he was demoted from associate superintendent.

The demotion came after the school district discovered he had helped conceal the removal of the computer by then district security chief Charles Parcell to his department.

According to Pasadena police, Klentschy authorized moving the computer to the security office. However, after special-education workers discovered the computer missing, Klentschy reportedly supported the theory it had been stolen. As a result, Klentschy’s annually salary was cut from $86,900 to just over $77,000. He also forfeited $15,000 in vacation pay.
