A 17-year-old Cypress youth was shot and wounded and his friend was beaten after a group of suspected gang members asked them their gang affiliation outside a video arcade late Sunday evening, police said.

The attack occurred outside the Western Arcade about 11 p.m., said Cypress Police Lt. Jim Weuve.

Police did not release the victims’ names because they are minors. Weuve said police are searching for three to 10 males, ages 17 to 18, in connection with the attack.

The Cypress youth was shot in the left side, and his friend, a 17-year-old of Anaheim, was beaten with empty beer and soda bottles, Weuve said.

Police Sgt. Larry Bandy said the Cypress youth suffered a superficial wound.

The bullet “passed through his clothes and grazed him,” Bandy said. “He was very lucky.”

Bandy said the teen-ager was treated and released. His friend was hospitalized, but his condition was not immediately known.
