NBA ROUNDUP : Against the Heat, Celtics Get Hot and Win Second in a Row

Boston’s hot and now Miami’s not.

Dee Brown scored six key points in the final two minutes and the Celtics shot 61% (45 of 74) to defeat the Heat, 112-104, Monday night at Miami and end Miami’s team-record seven-game winning streak.

The Celtics gained their second consecutive victory after a franchise-record 13-game losing streak. They also ended an eight-game road skid.

Brown scored 21 points. Teammate Sherman Douglas had 20 points and 11 assists.

Miami’s Grant Long hit 10 of 12 shots and scored 24 points. Rony Seikaly had 22 points and 14 rebounds.

The Heat lost for only the second time since the All-Star break.

New York 99, Detroit 85--John Starks scored all but two of his 21 points in the second half and sparked a 20-0 fourth-quarter run to help the Knicks win at Auburn Hills, Mich.

The Pistons, who have lost seven in a row, led 73-57 before going seven minutes without scoring to trail, 77-73.

Starks and Patrick Ewing each scored 21 points for the Knicks.

Portland 137, Golden State 108--Clifford Robinson scored 25 points, 17 in the first half, at Portland to lead the Trail Blazers to their ninth victory in 10 games.

Chris Mullin scored 20 points for the Warriors, who had won three in a row.

Portland led, 68-50, at halftime.
