AFTER SCHOOL: Andre Chevalier, last week you broke the all-time hoop scoring record at Cal State Northridge. Where are you going next? Disneyland? The NBA? Well, actually, he’s not sure. . . . Chevalier majors in Pan-African studies and shows an interest in business, but has no definite plans. “Something will come up,” he said.

NEW ERA: The future is closer than you think. Especially the car future. The California Air Resources Board released a report Tuesday saying the technology is available for electric cars (A3). . . . This comes as no surprise to the folks at Calstart, a nonprofit consortium in Burbank launched in 1992 to help create parts for electric vehicles. “The staff of the air board now know what we know,” said Michael Gage, Calstart’s president.

PRICEY POET: Sure, so maybe CSUN couldn’t land any big-name speakers to visit the school last fall, but this is a new year. On March 17, prized poet and Clinton favorite Maya Angelou, above, will read some of her works on campus. . . . The treat won’t come cheaply, though--she charges $15,000. “She’ll be well worth it,” a campus official said. “We are all very excited.”

CROSSING BORDERS: Mexican music is coming to the Valley, and we don’t mean the hip version played by American rockers demonstrating their diversity. We mean the real thing. . . . Four Mexican rock bands will perform Saturday at Universal Amphitheatre in “Revolucion ‘94,” which is also an attempt at helping us neighbors get along better. “This should have happened 30 years ago,” the concert organizer said (F3).

SAME MAPS: The quake has changed our lives forever, but there is some good news: At least it won’t change our beloved Thomas Bros. books. . . . “Most of the corrected work will be completed by the time our new books go out in September,” a spokeswoman for the Irvine-based maps company said.
