Poor Management
It appears that the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is attempting to cover up poor management practices by punishing a pilot involved in the loss of a firefighting helicopter while being directed to use it to start a controlled burn.
If the department’s chain of command functions with the lowest level employee bearing the ultimate responsibility and risk for the mistakes of those in charge, perhaps the grand jury should investigate the sheriff’s management policies.
