NBA ROUNDUP : Celtics Get Mugged by Bogues
Dee Brown learned a lesson that other guards have known for 10 years: You can’t turn your back on Muggsy Bogues.
Bogues made a key steal in the closing seconds of regulation, then scored four points in the final 40 seconds of overtime to rally the Charlotte Hornets to a 107-101 victory over the Boston Celtics Monday night at Charlotte, N.C.
Hersey Hawkins converted Bogues’ steal into a layup with 19.5 seconds left to force the overtime.
Bogues even warned Brown that he would lose the ball.
“I told him I was going to get it,” Bogues said. “He peeked at the shot clock.”
Detroit 108, Sacramento 102--Isiah Thomas scored 20 of his 22 points in the first half and Terry Mills had 20 points for the Pistons at Sacramento.
Detroit outscored the Kings, 35-25, in the fourth quarter. Joe Dumars, who had been averaging 32 points in his last four games, scored only 16, but his three-pointer with 44 seconds left gave the Pistons a 104-98 lead.
Denver 116, San Antonio 88--Mahmoud Abdul Rauf scored a season-high 33 points to lead the Nuggets to an easy victory over the Spurs at Denver. David Robinson had a season-low eight points.
