Palmer Invites Woods to Play in Tour Event
Tiger Woods is absent from the Western High golf team this week, but he has a good excuse: a note from Arnold Palmer.
Woods accepted a personal invitation from Palmer to play in the Nestle Invitational in Orlando, Fla. The PGA Tour event starts Thursday at Bay Hill, which Palmer owns.
It will be Woods’ fifth PGA event and sixth major professional tournament. Last month, he made the cut for the first time in a pro event, at the Johnnie Walker Classic in Phuket, Thailand. Woods finished eight-over-par 292 in the four-day tournament, 15 strokes behind winner Greg Norman.
Western Coach Don Crosby said Woods’ absence won’t hurt the team because the league season hasn’t started.
“He missed one week last year,” Crosby said, “and one this year, which is no big deal because he’ll come back next week fired up.”
