SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Two people were shot after an apparent confrontation with at least six other people in front of a home Wednesday afternoon, police said.

An 18-year-old was admitted to UCI Medical Center in Orange in critical condition with a gunshot wound in his back, while a 17-year-old was treated at West Anaheim Medical Center and released, Sgt. Larry Jordan said.

According to witnesses, the victims were in a vehicle in front of the home in the 5000 block of Marcella Avenue when another car pulled up. People got out of both cars and a fight occurred, Jordan said.

Neighbors told police they heard four to nine shots.

Afterward, the suspects, four men and two female juveniles, went into the house, Jordan said. Police arrived about 3:20 p.m. and blocked off the area.

“I’m shook up. I don’t know what happened, and I live here,” said Trent Kirkley, who said he lived at the house with his wife and four children.

Hospital officials told police that the two victims had been admitted, apparently driven by friends.

About 20 minutes after police arrived, the six suspects left the house and were arrested without incident.

Police, who by now had a warrant to search the house, found a gun inside. They did not know if it was used in the shooting.

Neighbors said that earlier Wednesday they had received an anonymous letter critical of the house’s occupants.

“We never had these kinds of problems in this neighborhood,” said one neighbor, who did not want to be named.
