Starlight Foundation’s Gala Raises $350,000

Starlight Foundation of California raised $350,000 at its 11th annual gala “The Child in All of Us,” on March 5 at the Century Plaza. Honorees were actress Marlee Matlin, the cast of the ABC series “Full House,” and Roger Shiffman of Tiger Electronics. The foundation grants wishes to seriously ill children and their families in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

American Diabetes Assn.’s Feb. 25 gala tribute to Ella Fitzgerald was attended by more than 300 guests at the Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey. The $60,000 raised at the benefit will support diabetes research and education programs.

American Red Cross and United Way will share $100,000 raised March 8 at six Los Angeles-area Bullock’s stores. The money is for relief efforts for Northridge earthquake victims. Approximately 8,000 customers made $10 donations that allowed them special discounts throughout the day. American Express, co-sponsor of Bullock’s shopping day, contributed $20,000.

March of Dimes’ 11th annual Celebrity Ski Classic held March 5-6 at Big Bear raised approximately $80,000. Event hosts were TV journalist Terry Murphy and Suzy Chaffee. Other celebrities included Gloria Loring, Steve Kanaly, Meredith MacRae and Lorenzo Lamas. Proceeds will benefit the Campaign for Healthier Babies.

USC/Kenneth Norris Jr. Cancer Hospital raised $36,000 at its stay-at-home Valentine’s Day party. Proceeds will support the radiology department.
