THOUSAND OAKS : Group Gets Grant to Aid Quake Recovery

Share

A Thousand Oaks senior citizens volunteer group has received a $16,000 federal grant to help in ongoing earthquake recovery.

The Conejo Retired Senior Volunteer Program will use the funds to pay mileage and meals for 75 volunteers who will help with earthquake projects throughout the community, program director Louise Danielle said.

Volunteers have already begun work at the Thousand Oaks Library, repairing and returning books to shelves. The library has been closed since the earthquake because of extensive damage.

Part of the funding will also be used to train volunteers for emergencies, Danielle said.

“After the earthquake, we had volunteers who wanted to help, but in some cases, it was hard to figure out where to send them and what exactly they should be doing,” she said. “This funding will help us prepare for the next emergency.”
