Sally Belfrage; Author of ‘A Room in Moscow’

Sally Belfrage, 57, author of nonfiction books about Russia, the U.S. civil rights movement and Northern Ireland. Born in Hollywood to English parents, Miss Belfrage moved to England as a child. After spending two years in Moscow in the 1950s, she wrote the successful book “A Room in Moscow.” After participating in civil rights marches in Mississippi in the 1960s, she wrote “Freedom Summer.” And after a year’s stay in Belfast, she published her book “The Crack” in 1987. She also wrote a book about India and had completed her autobiography, “Un-American Activities,” scheduled for publication later this year. On Monday in London of cancer.
