A 19-year-old man was fatally wounded after several men described as gang members opened fire in a crowded party Friday night, authorities said Saturday.

George John Rodriguez of Santa Ana was shot several times at the party in a home in the 1600 block of South Halladay Street, Santa Ana police said. Friends drove him to Coastal Communities Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 10:30 p.m.

Two “party crews,” groups of friends who put on parties often advertised by leaflets, had organized the party Friday night. At about 10:10 p.m., Sgt. Dan Carr said, several gang members crashed the party, where 30 to 50 people were in attendance.

When organizers asked the alleged gang members to leave, the young men fired several shots, Carr said. Police found Rodriguez, a party guest, with multiple gunshot wounds. No arrests were made and no weapons were recovered, police said.
