The Kings, searching for a third-line center, got 25-year-old Kevin Todd from the Chicago Blackhawks for a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft.

Todd, who had 21 goals and 42 assists as a rookie with the New Jersey Devils in 1990-91, fell into disfavor with Blackhawk Coach Darryl Sutter and has not played since Feb. 20. He had five goals and six assists in 35 games.

“I realized about 10 games ago I wouldn’t be playing in Chicago unless something really strange happened,” Todd said. “I asked for a trade and I was just waiting for something to happen.”

King Coach Barry Melrose said of Todd, “He’s a feisty, gritty competitor. I think people will like him.”

In another move, the Kings sent Brian McReynolds to their minor league team in Phoenix.
