Laguna Hills goalkeeper Sarah Lang shut down a talented front line as the South defeated the North, 2-0, in the Orange County girls’ soccer all-star game Wednesday at Chapman University.

Lang played 90 minutes in goal, which was 10 minutes longer than a regular-season game, and stopped several excellent scoring chances by the North.

On offense, the South used a pair of unassisted goals on outstanding individual efforts by San Clemente’s Jaime Greiner and Edison’s Christine Tyler.

Greiner gave the South a 1-0 lead 20 minutes into the game when she ran down a pass, maneuvered around a North defender and beat El Modena goalkeeper Amy Moreno up high.

Shortly before the half, Lang made the biggest save of the game, diving to her left to tip away a shot by Capistrano Valley’s Lindsay Light.

Lang stopped two more open shots in the second half and also used her height to foil several North corner kicks late in the game.

With a minute to play, the South cushioned its lead when Tyler trapped a goal kick from Moreno at midfield and took off on a breakaway. Moreno came toward Tyler, but Tyler’s shot was too high and hard, skipping off Moreno’s hands and into the goal.
