A business development consultant, whose contract was set to expire this month, has been rehired by the Camarillo City Council to serve the city for the remainder of the year.

The council voted unanimously Wednesday to extend the contract of Thomas E. Flavin, a principal of Business Government Partnership Inc., through December. He was hired by the city in October at a cost of $7,500 and will be paid an additional $7,500 for the contract extension.

Council members said they were pleased with Flavin’s work and may decide to increase his consulting hours starting next year.

“I’m very impressed with his work and his approach,” Councilwoman Charlotte Craven said. “I would like to see us increase his services to the city.”

In a report to the city dated March 7, Flavin said he has had talks with 76 businesses and of those, eight firms have expressed serious interest in relocating to the city.

Flavin did not disclose the names of the businesses considering a move.

Council members, fearing the city was losing its job base, voted last fall to hire Flavin, a Camarillo resident who works out of Burbank.
