RESEDA : B’nai B’rith Gives $70,000 in Quake Aid

Following a national appeal to its members, the B’nai B’rith Jewish fraternal order has presented $70,000 in earthquake relief to the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross and two Jewish organizations in the San Fernando Valley.

Checks of $20,000 and $10,000 were presented on Tuesday to representatives of the Salvation Army in the San Fernando Valley and Santa Monica, respectively; checks of $18,000 and $7,000 went to Red Cross officials in the Valley and Santa Monica, respectively.

The presentation took place at Sova, a kosher food pantry in Reseda operated by the Jewish Community Centers Assn. Sova was presented a check for $10,000 and the Encino lodge of B’nai B’rith was given $5,000.

Mike Maroko of Los Angeles, president of the 10-state Western regional body of B’nai B’rith, said the gifts were made “to provide tangible demonstration of concern” by the fraternal order for suffering caused by the Jan. 17 earthquake.
