COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress’ Lopez Pitches Shutout to Beat Saddleback in Softball

Jenny Lopez pitched a two-hitter as Cypress beat Saddleback, 4-0, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Friday at Cypress.

Lopez (5-4) had six strikeouts and five walks for host Cypress (23-10, 4-5). Alison Murphy had three hits, including a double, scored a run and drove in another.

Saddleback is 15-9, 4-5.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming:

Rancho Santiago 129, Cypress 54--Freshman Michelle Morris was a triple winner for Rancho Santiago. Morris, who is undefeated in dual meets, won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.3), the 50 butterfly (28.9) and 200 individual medley (2:16.8). Teammate Karen Sill won the 50 freestyle (26.9), 100 freestyle (59.1) and 500 freestyle (6:37.2).

Orange Coast 131, San Diego Mesa 87--Orange Coast won every individual and relay race in winning its 91st consecutive dual meet.

Saddleback 155, Palomar 142--Saddleback clinched the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, the last event of the meet. Kristine Palle won the 100 freestyle (1:00.16), the 200 freestyle (2:05.44) and the 500 freestyle (5:49.36) and also was the anchor leg of the 200 freestyle relay team.

In women’s South Coast Conference swimming:

Golden West 99, El Camino 30--Kate Kilgallen, June Mitrais, Jennifer Ullrich and Belinda Kernkamp each won two races for Golden West (3-0).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s swimming:

Rancho Santiago 103, Cypress 67--Chad Gniffke won the 200 individual medley (2:24.3) and 200 breaststroke (2:42) for visiting Rancho Santiago. May Miyahara won the 200 freestyle (1:56.0) and 500 freestyle (5:21.3) for Cypress.

In men’s South Coast Conference swimming:

Golden West 71, El Camino 32--Matt Braun won the 100 freestyle in 50.82 and the 50 freestyle in 22.92 to lead Golden West (3-0).
