COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Jones’ Homer Gives CSUN 3-0 Softball Win

Shannon Jones hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning and Amy Windmiller pitched a one-hitter as Cal State Northridge defeated Oregon, 3-0, to complete pool play Friday in the Cal State Fullerton softball tournament.

Jones drove in Tamara Ivie and Scia Maumausolo with her fourth home run of the season.

Windmiller (11-1) walked one and struck out 10. In her last seven starts--all victories--she has given up five hits and one run in 45 innings. During that span, she has four no-hitters, including two perfect games.

Northridge (21-3) was to start single-elimination bracket play against Georgia State on Friday night, but the game was postponed until noon today because of rain.

BASEBALL

Valley 6, Canyons 4--Ozzie Areu hit a two-run homer in the first inning and added a double in the third as the host Monarchs (8-12-1, 6-5 in conference play) won a Western State Conference game.

David Stevenson extended his hitting streak to 12 games with two doubles.

Canyons stranded 13 runners, leaving the bases loaded in the seventh and two runners on in the eighth as Juan Dorado picked up his first save of the season.

Pierce 10, Santa Monica 2--Rusty Howard replaced injured Brandon Nickens in the fourth inning and led the Brahmas to a WSC victory at Marine Park.

Nickens left after stiffness developed in his elbow. Howard pitched four innings, giving up two hits and striking out three.

Caesar Martinez had two hits, scored three runs and stole four bases for Pierce.
