HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Schaeffer Completes Harvard Comeback

Jon Schaeffer hit a grand slam and doubled in the winning run in the ninth inning to lead Harvard-Westlake High to a 13-12 Mission League victory over host Loyola on Saturday.

Harvard-Westlake (5-4, 2-2 in league play) rallied from a four-run deficit in the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings.

Notre Dame 3, Chaminade 1--Rich Igou (4-1) threw a three-hitter for host Notre Dame (8-1, 4-0) in a Mission League game, striking out five and walking two.

Robbie Brewster homered and doubled for Notre Dame.

Alemany 6, St. Bernard 3--Monrad Jensen, Bill Scott and Todd Hoover each had two hits for Alemany (6-2, 2-2) in a Mission League game. Rudy Pantoja (2-0) struck out five in five innings and Fred Perez earned his fourth save.

Crespi 10, Bishop Montgomery 0--Eight different players drove in runs and Mike Glendenning had two doubles for Crespi (6-2-1, 2-2) in a Mission League game.

Ron Jones struck out seven in 4 2/3 innings and Jon Cuccias retired all seven batters he faced.

Canyon 4, Burbank 1--Lucas Solomon and Ricky Engbrecht combined on a two-hitter for Canyon (3-5-1, 1-1) in a Foothill league game at Burbank.

St. Bonaventure 3, Bishop Diego 2--Andrew Montenegro scored the winning run on Jake Brown’s sacrifice fly in the eighth inning of a Tri Valley League game.

SOFTBALL

Royal 4-3, La Reina 0-0--In the first game of the nonleague doubleheader, Kelly Lovato (3-1) struck out 12 and walking three. Lovato keyed a three-run sixth with a one-out RBI double. Jessie Leonard and Jamie Carter each had two hits for Royal (6-3, 2-1).

In the second game, Kaelynn Jones (2-1) collected the win. Leonard was two for two.

DIVING

Justin Dumais of Buena High swept the boys’ competition in the Conejo Valley Diving Invitational at Thousand Oaks High, winning the 6-dive and 11-dive events.

Heather Weiss of Royal took the girls’ 6-dive event.
