A 24-year-old Rancho Palos Verdes man sustained fatal head injuries Sunday after he lost control of his motorcycle on California 150 west of Osborne Road and collided with a westbound motorist, authorities said.

The motorcyclist, whose name was not released pending notification of next of kin, was traveling east near Santa Paula about 12:20 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a sharp right-hand curve, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorcycle crossed over the double yellow lines and struck the side of a car driven by Joseph Fallowfield, 60, of Santa Paula.

CHP officials said the motorcyclist was driving in excess of the posted 35 m.p.h. speed limit at the time of the accident. Authorities said Fallowfield could not have avoided the collision and was not at fault. He was not cited.

Ventura County Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said investigators believe that the man, who was wearing a helmet, most likely hit a wet spot in the road, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle.
