PREP ROUNDUP : Morris Sets Mark in Hurdles in Huntington Beach Victory

Courtney Morris set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles as Huntington Beach beat Rosary, 100-17, in a Sunset League girls’ track and field meet Tuesday at Huntington Beach.

Morris, a junior, ran the 100 hurdles in 16.4 seconds. She also won the high jump in 4 feet 10 inches.

Freshman Jennifer Spahr won the 1,600, 3,200 and was a member of the winning 1,600 relay team. Megan Waters won the 100, 200 and 400 for Huntington Beach.

In another Sunset League girls’ meet:

Fountain Valley 80, Marina 47--Marlene Lang won the 100, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, and ran the anchor leg of the winning 400 relay team for host Fountain Valley (3-0).

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 71, Servite 64--The meet came down to the 1,600 relay, and Chris Johnston held on in the last leg for Huntington Beach, which won the race in 3:45.9, by almost five seconds.

In Sunset League boys’ swimming:

Servite 112, Ocean View 44--Brian Heifferon finished first in the 100 freestyle (49.2), 200 freestyle (1:47.6) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay for Servite (3-5, 2-1).

In Sea View League boys’ volleyball:

Woodbridge 3, University 1--Kevin Reid led Woodbridge (3-4, 3-2) with 19 kills in a 15-7, 15-4, 11-15, 15-4 victory.

In Garden Grove League volleyball:

Garden Grove 3, Santiago 0--Albert Cardenas had 23 assists as visiting Garden Grove swept, 15-3, 15-4, 15-5.

La Quinta 3, Pacifica 0--Kevin Doane had 18 kills and four aces to lead La Quinta (5-3, 4-1) to a 16-14, 15-6, 15-10 victory.

In the British Columbia Easter golf tournament:

Western 839, Victoria (B.C.) Lambrick 849, Victoria (B.C.), Mt. Douglas 889--Western’s Tiger Woods was medalist, shooting one-under-par 143. Woods shot two-under 70 Tuesday at Olympic View Golf Club in Victoria, Canada. He had two eagles and six birdies in 36 holes in the tournament in British Columbia.

In Sunset League golf:

Servite 204, Edison 207--Mike Lauder and Wally Luciano each shot one-over 37 for Servite (10-1, 5-0) at SeaCliff Country Club.

Huntington Beach 185, Marina 201--Perry Dickey shot an even 35 and Greg Uberuaga and Scott Blaska each shot 36 at Meadowlark for Huntington Beach (3-1 in league).
