COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Saddleback Advances at College of Seqouias Tournament

Saddleback scored solo runs in the first, second, sixth and eighth innings, including Ted Wilkes’ home run in the sixth, to beat Monterey Peninsula, 4-1, in the second round of the College of Sequoias Tournament Wednesday.

The home run was the third of the season for Wilkes.

In the opening round, Dennis Crine struck out seven and walked one in nine innings to lead Saddleback to a 6-0 victory over Canada.

Jerry Apana hit his second home run of the season, a three-run shot in the ninth, and Rich Kleckner added three hits for Saddleback (14-8).

In another tournament game:

San Francisco De Anza 3, Orange Coast 0--The Pirates (4-17) committed five errors against De Anza in a first-round game.

Starter Carlos Cevallos (1-2) was victimized by poor defense, losing even though he did not give up an earned run in eight innings. Richard Rodrigues was four for four with two RBIs for De Anza.

In the Channel Coast baseball tournament:

Rancho Santiago 5, Moorpark 3--Jason Minici had three hits and three RBIs and Joe Fraser hit a two-run single in the third for Rancho Santiago (20-9) at Moorpark. Brian Martineau struck out five in 8 1/3 innings and Steve Rewald earned his third save for the Dons, who will play in the semifinals at 2 p.m. today.
