Authorities on Thursday arrested two men as suspects in a shooting that left two brothers dead and one of the suspects who was accidentally shot by a companion in serious condition.

Antonio Lopez Bilboa, 18, of North Hills was arrested near Lindley Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard and later booked on suspicion of murder at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division, said Detective Tony Foti.

The second suspect, Carlos Luis Flores, 20, of Canoga Park was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center by unknown persons, said Detective Tom Broad. Flores, who is expected to survive, was transferred to the jail ward at County-USC Medical Center, he said.

Police are looking for a third suspect.

Flores also has been booked on murder charges, and Broad said police will seek to add robbery charges for both suspects when the case is taken to the district attorney’s office. Broad identified both of the suspects as members of a street gang.

The victims have been identified as Alfredo Cordova, 44, and his brother, Jose Cordova, 48, Foti said. The men were fatally shot about 8 p.m. Wednesday as they and two friends worked on a car in the parking lot of a 36-unit apartment building in the 8600 block of Wilbur Avenue, authorities said.

“They were just out there having a beer and working on their car,” Foti said.

The suspects walked up to the victims and one pulled out a handgun and demanded money, Foti said. One of the four men struggled with the gunman and wrestled the gun from his hands, Foti said.

At that time, a third man opened fire on the group with a small-caliber handgun, Foti said. That man shot the Cordova brothers as well as Flores, his companion.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office is expected to conduct an autopsy today, said Michael Riddle, a supervising investigator.
