COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Moorpark Pulls Out 7-6 Victory in Bottom of 9th

Tom Anderson’s sacrifice fly drove in Kent Cote with the winning run in the bottom of the the ninth, giving Moorpark College a 7-6 victory over Imperial Valley in a Channel Coast tournament consolation bracket game Thursday at Moorpark.

The Raiders (11-8) tied the score on Ryan Briggs’ squeeze in the eighth. Kevin Nykoluk and Alex Alvarenga each had two hits and two runs batted in for the Raiders.

Rancho Santiago 12, Oxnard 5--Joe Torres and Jim Seguine each had three hits and an RBI for Oxnard (10-13) in a loss to Rancho Santiago (22-6) in the semifinal of the Channel Coast tournament.

Southwestern 5, Pierce 4--Cesar Martinez collected two hits and Keith McElwee singled in two runs for the Brahmas (15-11) in the championship game of the Grossmont tournament.

Southwestern (20-4) scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning on a passed ball.

Cypress 14, Canyons 8--Chris Pfatenhauer, who hit his first home run of the season, and Ari Jacobs had three hits each for the Cougars (9-13), but it was not enough in a Hancock tournament consolation game at Santa Maria.

Canyons, which has lost five in a row, was eliminated.

L.A. City 5, Mission 4 (14 innings)--Freshman right-hander John Ramiro (1-3) took the hard-luck loss for Mission (15-13) despite pitching nine innings of two-hit ball while allowing one earned run. Erik Lazarus was three for four with two runs and an RBI for Mission.
