SANTA CLARITA — Two West Covina teen-agers were hospitalized after a shooting outside Six Flags Magic Mountain that authorities suggest was gang-related.
One youth, 17, is in serious condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia from a bullet wound to the torso that cut his liver. The other boy, 14, was shot in the wrist and taken to Queen of Angels-Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. His condition was unavailable.
Authorities declined to identify the two teen-agers because of their ages.
The incident occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses said two Asian male juveniles armed with handguns shot “numerous times” at the teen-agers, who were in a car near the intersection of Magic Mountain Parkway and The Old Road, according to a sheriff’s report.
The suspects ran from the sidewalk in front of the Chevron gas station at the intersection’s southwest corner, crossing The Old Road, to a car in the Wendy’s restaurant parking lot to the northeast. They drove south on the Golden State Freeway, witnesses said.
Authorities at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station said they believe the shooting may be gang-related.
The suspects and victims are believed to have encountered each other earlier in the evening at the amusement park.
