* REWARD PAYMENTS: Approved payment of $25,000 to the person who provided information that resulted in a successful prosecution in the murder of 7-year-old Kanita Hailey, who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting while playing baseball at the Imperial Courts housing project in Watts on Aug. 2, 1989. Also approved payment of $5,000 to the person who provided information resulting in the successful prosecution in the case of the murders of four men on South Burnside Avenue on June 12, 1990. The claimant did not personally identify the suspects in the case, but directed police to witnesses to the crime and therefore was awarded a portion of the $25,000 reward.

* ARLINGTON AVENUE REPAIRS: Directed the city engineer’s office to begin plans for a construction project on Arlington Avenue near the Santa Monica Freeway. The project calls for new traffic signals, sidewalks, freeway access ramps and road widening along Arlington Avenue from 17th Street to Jefferson Boulevard. The $2.6-million project was scheduled for construction in late 1997, but when the county Board of Supervisors agreed to pay half of the costs, the city decided to proceed as soon as possible.

* PLAZA VERMONT PROJECT: Authorized the city controller to negotiate a $2-million loan to the Corridor Economic Development Corp. for development of the Plaza Vermont, a 79-unit low-income housing project at 6264 S. Vermont Ave. Construction is to begin in June, and completion of the project, where monthly rents will range from $261 for a one-bedroom unit to $667 for a three-bedroom unit, is targeted for September, 1995.

* GRAPE BOYCOTT: Approved a weeklong boycott of California table grapes by City Council members to express support for farm workers exposed to pesticides. At the urging of a visitor to the council meeting, Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg, author of the resolution, amended the boycott to exempt grapes certified as organically grown. Passed 12-1.
