PACOIMA : MTA to Discuss Fare Hikes, Cuts in Service
- Share via
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has scheduled a community meeting in Pacoima on Saturday to discuss possible reductions in bus service and increases in fares to help close a severe budget shortfall.
The meeting is one of eight community gatherings sponsored by the agency to inform residents of cost-cutting measures being studied. MTA officials have said that some bus fare and service changes will be unavoidable in the coming fiscal year, beginning July 1, if the agency is to eliminate a capital and operating deficit of nearly $300 million.
Transit planners are considering raising the basic fare from $1.10 to $1.50, scaling back weekend and holiday service, and cutting bus lines that duplicate rail routes.
Residents will be able to comment and ask questions at Saturday’s meeting, but formal public input will be received only at a public hearing April 23 at the county Hall of Administration in Downtown Los Angeles.
The Pacoima meeting will run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Boys & Girls Club of the San Fernando Valley, 11251 Glenoaks Blvd.
