Oxnard police are searching for a suspect who shot a man in the carport of an apartment complex after arguing over a parking space, authorities said.

Tyrone Small, 23, was found bleeding from the head inside the carport at 901 W. Gonzales Road about 6:25 p.m. Wednesday after nearby residents called police to report gunshots.

Small had been shot in the skull, but police said the wound was superficial. Small was treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center and released late Wednesday, hospital officials said.

Small told police he had been fighting with another man over a parking space when the other man pulled out a .22-caliber rifle and fired five rounds at him. The suspect, who appeared to be about 25 years old, then sped off in a red sports car, police said.
