Scattered Showers Lead to Handful of Accidents

Scattered showers across Ventura County early Saturday morning caught motorists by surprise, but the rain gave way to sunshine and gusty winds.

Clear skies are expected today, with temperatures in the upper 60s along the coast and lower 70s inland, forecasters said.

A small-craft warning for winds of 15 to 25 m.p.h. could continue today, Coast Guard officials said.

The storm deposited 1/10 to a quarter inch of rain from Santa Barbara to Orange counties.

The wet roads caused a handful of traffic accidents early Saturday morning, police officials said.

The Ventura Police Department reported three non-injury accidents between 9 and 10 a.m., and the Simi Valley Police Department reported two accidents about the same time.

“It’s kind of unusual for a Saturday morning to have that many,” Ventura Police Officer Kelly Dean said.
