The Boys & Girls Club, which provides education and sports programs to more than 2,000 youngsters each year, is holding its annual fund-raiser April 23 and hopes to raise more than $70,000.

The event will include a silent auction, a dinner, a live auction and dancing, said Jerry Younker, one of the fund-raiser’s planners. Among the auction items are a new Thunderbird, artwork and trips to the Bahamas, Nashville and New Orleans.

Admission is $75 per person for the fund-raiser, which will be at the Doubletree Hotel, 100 S. The City Drive, Orange. For tickets, call the Boys & Girls Club at (714) 525-8241.

The nonprofit youth club raised about $50,000 last year and hopes to have 300 people attend this event, Younker said. About half the tickets have already been sold.

The club, at 348 W. Commonwealth Ave., offers programs for youths ages 6 to 18, mostly during after-school hours. It is also busy weekends and in the summer.

Besides sports programs, the club also offers tutoring, anti-gang and anti-drug programs, arts and crafts and a computer center. Programs for preschool children are offered at a branch of the club at 410 S. Richman Ave.
