A homeless man was charged Tuesday with the murder of a man with whom he shared an apartment in an abandoned building, authorities said.

Michael Anthony Simeone, 30, was charged with one count of murder by the Los Angeles district attorney’s office, said Detective Charles Uribe of the Los Angeles Police Department.

He allegedly used a cinder block to crush the skull of Joseph Robert Loya, 29, late Sunday or early Monday morning, Uribe said.

An unidentified friend of Loya’s found him Monday morning on the floor of the apartment in the 5100 block of Bakman Avenue.

Simeone, whose shirt was stained with blood, was arrested at the scene by patrol officers in the driveway of the apartment building, Uribe said.

Simeone led officers to the apartment where Loya’s body was found and told police that he had lived there with the victim for about two weeks, Uribe said.
