Pop Album Chart : It’s Pink Floyd at the Bell

Share

There was no dark side for Pink Floyd this week as its “The Division Bell” entered the pop album chart at No. 1. How long will that “Bell” be clanging at the top? Probably not too long. Pink Floyd is a major touring outfit, one of the few that can play the stadium circuit. But that’s based on the enduring popularity of vintage albums like “Dark Side of the Moon” and “The Wall.” The new material is more of interest to veteran hard-core fans than young record-buyers. Over a long period, though, the album may do well. Tim McGraw’s “Not a Moment Too Soon” is still a hot item thanks to his politically incorrect hit, “Indian Outlaw.” The album, which many predicted would go away fast, hasn’t--moving up a rung to No. 7. Nirvana’s “In Utero” could wind up in the Top 20 again, jumping from No. 72 to No. 27 after Kurt Cobain’s death last week. R. Kelly’s “Bump ‘n’ Grind is the No. 1 pop single for the third straight week.

* The Crash Test Dummies’ album, “God Shuffled His Feet,” shuffled a little bit closer to the Top 10, inching up a notch to No. 11. If the group’s Top 5 pop single, “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm,” can stay popular a little longer, the album just might make the Top 10.
