HUNTINGTON BEACH : City to Give $4,000 for Grad Nite Parties

Share

To foster sane-and-sober Grad Nite parties for local students, the city is donating $1,000 to each festivity at its four public high schools.

The City Council unanimously voted Monday to make the gifts to the Grad Nite celebrations at Huntington Beach, Marina, Edison and Ocean View high schools.

Most county high schools hold Grad Nite parties on the evening of high school graduation. The events, supervised by parents and faculty, are usually held on campus and feature an array of entertainment and prizes.

Supporters of Grad Nite, including the Huntington Beach Police Department, contend that the high school graduates are kept safe at the alcohol- and drug-free events.

The city’s $4,000 donation to the Grad Nite parties comes from the Police Department’s Narcotic Asset Forfeiture Fund. That fund consists of money and property seized from drug dealers.
